Spain is testing a new deposit-control system that follows a player’s money across licensed online gambling operators. The DGOJ says the nationwide limits are scheduled to become mandatory on 26 March 2027, with a player portal already available as the technical work moves into its testing phase.
The change matters because the old model treated each sportsbook or online casino account separately. A player could have a limit on one site and still make a fresh deposit on another. Spain’s new system puts those accounts on the same ledger.

The default thresholds are €700 per day, €1,750 per week and €3,300 over a four-week period. Deposits are aggregated across authorised operators rather than calculated one site at a time. When a threshold is reached, the system blocks further deposits on any covered platform.
Casino News Daily reports that the daily calculation runs from 06:00 to 06:00, while the weekly and four-week windows reset on a Tuesday morning. That timing is easy to miss when a player thinks in calendar days, so the operator’s explanation still matters even after the central tool is live.
Players can lower, raise or remove a joint limit, but the changes do not have the same speed. Reductions take effect immediately. Increases and removals take three working days, and an increase can only be requested once every three months after the required risk information is shown.
That delay is the most practical part of the reform. A higher limit is not meant to be an instant response to a losing session or a new promotion. The cooling-off period gives the player time to see the request outside the pressure of the moment.
TopGamb’s casino deposit-limit guide explains the ordinary account control, while the gross-limit explainer separates deposits from losses. The loss-limit guide is still relevant because a deposit cap does not predict the result of a session.
Spain’s free Player Portal gives users a consolidated view of deposits, stakes, wins and losses across authorised operators. It also shows accounts attached to the player’s identity, supports spending alerts and offers downloadable annual activity certificates. Access is through Spain’s Cl@ve digital identity system.
A combined history can answer a question that individual casino dashboards hide: how much has actually moved through every account this week? TopGamb’s account-history check is a useful habit even where a national portal is not available.
The reform is not a guarantee that every player will stay within a comfortable budget. It is a structural control that makes switching accounts less useful as a way around a limit. Check the operator’s licence and local rules with our legal-status checklist, set a limit before depositing and treat any request to raise it as a pause point.
Keep gambling within a fixed entertainment budget. If the next deposit feels urgent, use the account’s time-out tools and a local support service rather than waiting for the new limit to solve the decision.
