A blackjack push is a tie between the player and the dealer. If both finish on the same non-busting total, the hand normally returns the original stake without a win or loss. A 19 against 19 is a push; it is not a half-win and it is not a losing hand.
The word matters because a blackjack table can show several different outcomes beside one another: a player win, a dealer win, a natural blackjack, a bust and a push. The paytable and house rules decide how each is recorded.

Suppose a player stands on 18 and the dealer also finishes on 18. The main wager is returned. If the player has a separate side bet, that side bet is settled under its own rules; the push on the main hand does not automatically decide every additional wager.
A push is also different from a natural blackjack. A natural is usually an ace with a ten-value card in the opening two cards, while a 21 made with three or more cards is generally treated differently. If the dealer also has a natural, the two hands can push, but the table’s wording still controls the result.
Wizard of Odds’ blackjack guide is useful for the mathematics and rule variations. TopGamb’s soft-17 explainer shows why a dealer rule can change the underlying edge even when the push definition stays familiar.
TopGamb’s surrender guide and insurance explainer cover two options that are often misunderstood because they appear beside the base hand. The house-edge guide puts the rules in long-run context.
A push does not create a credit, a bonus or a better chance on the next hand. It simply returns the stake under the table’s tie rule. The next deal is a new random event, so a series of pushes is not evidence that a win is due.
Set a session budget before play and treat a returned stake as money available to stop with, not as a reason to increase the next wager. If the hand history or paytable is unclear, pause and ask the operator or dealer before continuing.
A blackjack push is a tied main hand in which the player and dealer finish on the same qualifying total and the original stake is normally returned. It is a neutral settlement, not a profit.
